The next Dynamics 365 update is coming. Here’s what Microsoft has planned for Business Central.

For over 20 years, we’ve been working with Microsoft to deliver modern ERP systems to our Clients. Updates to Microsoft Dynamics 365 are more than just technical adjustments — they are a response to real feedback and the evolving needs of users around the world. That’s why they’re released regularly and quite frequently — twice a year — bringing practical improvements with each wave.

Just a few days ago, Microsoft announced the next major update: Release Wave 2 for 2025. For us and our Clients, the changes coming to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central are particularly important. Since the new features will start rolling out in October, now is a great time to take a closer look at what’s coming.

What’s New in Business Central? Release Wave 2 (2025) Preview

In the second half of 2025, Business Central will introduce new features designed to enhance automation, improve user experience, and help businesses meet new market demands. The latest version of the system will include several important updates.

Sales Order Agent – Now Generally Available with Expanded Capabilities

Previously introduced in preview, the Sales Order Agent feature allows businesses to automatically process sales orders using AI. With the upcoming release, this functionality will become generally available and enhanced with new capabilities — including more detailed instruction handling and support for expanded order processing scenarios.

Enhanced Reporting Features

The new wave of updates brings significant improvements in reporting. Financial, purchasing, and sales reports have been modernized to be more readable, responsive, and accessible — without the need for third-party tools. Business Central users will also benefit from an upgraded Power BI app for sales, making it easier to extract actionable insights from real-time data.

Subcontracting in Manufacturing – Now Included as Standard

One of the most anticipated features for manufacturing companies is finally being added to the core system — subcontracting support.

As Alfredo Iorio notes, subcontracting capabilities were already available in the Italian localization, helping manage logistics for both finished goods and raw materials/components. Now, these features will be included in the standard Business Central application. The new functionality enables more flexible planning and tracking of work orders performed by external vendors and will be available to all users.

Quality Control for Incoming Goods and Materials

The next update will introduce quality assessment functionality for incoming materials and finished goods at the delivery stage. This will allow users to record inspection results before items are released to warehouse or production processes. The new feature can help businesses streamline quality control procedures and document compliance with internal standards.

New Features in E-Documents

The e-documents module will be expanded to support new document types, including shipment and transfer documents. A new clearance model will also be introduced, allowing organizations to better comply with e-reporting requirements in various countries. Administrators will gain new permissions to manage these processes — all within one integrated environment.

When Can We Expect These Changes?

Key dates for the Release Wave 2 update:

  • July 30, 2025 – Microsoft publishes the full release plan
  • August 4, 2025 – Early access begins, allowing users to test new features before they go live in production environments
  • October 1, 2025 – General availability: updates begin rolling out to production environments, with features gradually becoming available to all Dynamics 365 Business Central users
